Hanging Hammocks outdoor hammocks hanging
This site will show you how to hang your hammock in various conditions.

Outdoors : From Trees
A permanent hammock will use eye screws. Get some heavy duty eye screws (1/2 inch or larger). Drill a hole that is slightly smaller than the eye screw you have selected. Use a metal bar or large screwdriver to help you screw the eye screw in all the way;it will give you a lot more leverage. Then, if you desire, you can use S hooks and chain to adjust the height of the hammock. Make sure you put the eye hooks up high enough because it is quite easy to adjust down, but impossible to adjust up. Generally, most people prefer the hammock to be 2-4 feet off the ground. It depends on the hammock length, but most hammock ends will usually be 5 feet above the ground, or higher, and the hammock trees are usually 10-15 feet apart.

Outdoors : From Posts
When setting a post, you will need 1-2 bags of 80lb conrcrete and a 4*4 or 6*6 post. A third of the post will go into the ground and since most hammocks need the ends around six feet, or higher, you should get a twelve foot post, to be safe. You could buy a typical 8 foot post, but it will leave you little room for error. If your post is too high, you can just cut the top off with a circular saw.

To set the post dig the hole a third of the post length and put the post in. Then put the dry concrete around the post (1-2 bags). Then, put water in hole with garden hose and mix with a dig bar or shovel handle. Make sure posts are level both ways by using a post level.

Eye bolts are better than eye screws. For a post installation, you should use eye bolts. You will need to drill completely through the post and fasten with washers and nuts. This is not realistic on a huge tree. That’s why we recommend eye screws for tree installation.

Hanging From A Ceiling
Find the studs in the ceiling with a stud finder. They are almost always every sixteen inches. Generally, use ½ inch eye screws and a 5/16 inch drill bit. Pre drill the pilot hole and screw in the eye screw. Use S hooks chain, and rope, if necessary, to adjust the height of the hammock.
