Some hammocks are made of rope.  The rope is often cotton, but can also be a synthetic material like nylon.

Cotton and Natural Rope

Cotton rope is cooler and softer than other ropes.  This is why it is often the preferred choice.  However, synthetic rope is stronger and lasts much longer.

Synthetic Rope

Nylon and polypropylene ropes are very strong.  They will also make an excellent hammock.  They will be slightly less comfortable and hotter in the summer.

Climbing Rope

Climbing rope is very strong and has some give to it.  It is an excellent choice to use to tie up the hammock.
